INCIDENT: Homicide Investigation

LOCATION: West Valley Detention Center – 9500 Etiwanda Ave, Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT(S): Marco Antonio Lopez-Hernandez, 26-year-old Male, Resident of Upland

VICTIM(S): Adam Adams,56-year-old Male, Resident of Upland

SUMMARY: On Sunday, May 21, 2023, at approximately 4:54 a.m., a deputy assigned to West Valley Detention Center located 56-year-old inmate, Adam Adams, lying on the floor inside his cell. The deputy attempted to wake Adams and he was unresponsive. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures and requested jail medical staff to respond. Despite life-saving attempts, Adams was pronounced deceased.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded to conduct the investigation. During the investigation, it was determined Adam’s cellmate, Marco Antonio Lopez-Hernandez, was responsible for the death. Lopez-Hernandez was supplementally booked for PC 187-Murder.
