Man Stabs Cousin, Charged with Murder

Danny Chagolla and Manual Dominguez

SAN BERNARDINO – A suspect accused of a fatal stabbing in February appeared in court this week, but still faces an April 21 court date on murder charges.

On Monday, police arrested a suspect in the Feb. 24 stabbing of a man in his home on North Lugo Ave. in San Bernardino.

Danny Chagolla, 32, was arrested when police arrived to reports of a fight at a residence in the 11000 block of 14th St. Police found a man who had been severely beaten on the front porch at that home.

Chagolla, who had run inside the home, was eventually taken into custody for the beating. Police later discovered that he was the suspect in the death of Manuel “Tommy” Dominguez, who had been stabbed two months earlier.
Dominguez, 36, had been taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center suffering from multiple stab wounds. He died about one hour later after arriving at the medical facility.

Police were told that Chagolla and Dominguez were cousins. Originally police stated that Dominguez and Chagolla were involved in a scuffle that led to the stabbing death, reportedly over a cell phone. A San Bernardino police report said Dominguez had accused Chagolla “of stealing his phone.”

The two began fighting in the street and Dominguez was stabbed. Eileen Hards, a spokeswoman for San Bernardino Police, said “no one but Danny was around the victim when he was stabbed.” Dominguez was found by authorities suffering from stab wounds to his upper back area.

Booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, about 25 miles from San Bernardino, bail was originally set at $2 million. Chagolla is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, according to court records.

On Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty in the death of Dominguez

Chagolla is also being held on other unrelated charges, including the cultivation of marijuana, accusations taking place in another part of San Bernardino County. He was arraigned on those charges in Victorville Superior Court, according to county records.

On Thursday, he appeared on San Bernardino Superior Court to answer charges on assault with intent to do great bodily injury. Court records related that bail was set on those charges at $200,000.

Chagolla is scheduled to appear again in San Bernardino Superior Court on April 21. Court records in that case has revealed bail being set at $1 million on the murder charge.
