The Davis Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a series of recent stabbing attacks that have resulted in two deaths.
According to a press release, on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 3, the Davis Police Department Dispatch Center and TIP hotline received multiple calls reporting that a person matching the description of a wanted suspect had been seen in the area of Sycamore Park and the surrounding areas.
Officers responded to the area to search for the suspect as the department continued to receive calls. They located the individual, identified as 21-year-old Carlos Dominguez of Davis. Dominguez was reportedly found near Pine Lane and Colby Drive, in close proximity to the scene of the second homicide. During his apprehension, officers reportedly discovered a large fixed blade knife in his possession.
Given the evidence and information gathered thus far, Dominguez was considered a “person of interest” in the recent attacks. He was taken to the Davis Police Department for an extensive interview. “Significant evidence,” including clothing closely resembling the description provided after the third attack, was collected, further linking Dominguez to the crimes, police said.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 4, Dominguez was booked at the Yolo County jail. Detectives executed a search warrant at Dominguez’s residence in Davis, yielding further significant evidence.
Based on the information and evidence obtained, Dominguez now faces two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of David Breaux and Karim Abou Najm. Dominguez has also been charged with one count of attempted murder for the stabbing attack on Kimberlee Guillory, who is currently recovering from her injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the Davis Police Department urges anyone with additional information related to these incidents to come forward and assist in the pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.
It is unclear at press time whether Dominguez has retained an attorney.
