Brawl, Stabbings at Davis Apartment Complex Potentially Gang-Related

Davis police responding to several calls about shots fired in North Davis discovered a large party degenerating into several fights at the Suntree Apartments, 2033 F Street, about 2am, August 11; two people were hospitalized with stab wounds.

As their investigation into the vicious fracas continues, police speculate it may have been in part fueled by rival gang tensions.

“During that fight,” stated Davis Police Lt. Glenn Glasgow in a press release, “[one] victim was stabbed and suffered major injuries.” While working to end the melee threatening to spiral further out of control at the crime scene and begin their investigation, Davis PD officers learned that a second stabbing victim had been driven by friends to a local hospital. Authorities have yet to release information as to the victims’ ages or their conditions.

Although some people who called police reported they had heard multiple gunshots and witnesses at the crime scene said they had seen a man with a gun, police investigators uncovered no evidence of gunfire.

According to the Yolo County Gang Task Force, an intelligence gathering agency that operates county-wide, gangs have been an increasing problem in Davis for the past several years. Dale Johnson, a YCGTF spokesman, told the Davis Vanguard blog, “Everyone has a different interpretation of the gang situation. Some call it overblown, but a lot of people are in denial…you just have to contact the Davis Police Department and you’ll find that it’s there.”
