Coachella Man Apprehended for Attempted Rape and Robbery in Palm Springs

Palm Springs, California – In a shocking incident that occurred during the early hours of Sunday, April 23rd, a Coachella man was arrested after allegedly breaking into an apartment on the 700 block of Los Felices Cir N in Palm Springs and attempting to sexually assault a woman.
The Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) swiftly responded to a distress call made by the victim at approximately 4:20 AM, prompting an immediate investigation into the horrifying incident.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect gained entry into the victim’s apartment through an open window while she was asleep. He then launched a heinous assault on the unsuspecting victim.
Despite the traumatic situation, the courageous woman valiantly fought back, forcing the attacker to retreat momentarily. However, the assailant, undeterred, returned and forcibly entered the residence through a closed window.
Fortunately, the victim’s unwavering determination and resilience prevailed once again as she managed to fend off the suspect for the second time, forcing him to flee the scene. Law enforcement officers sprang into action, initiating a rapid manhunt to bring the perpetrator to justice.
Within a short span of time, the authorities successfully apprehended the suspect. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Fernando Javier Hernandez, a resident of Coachella, was taken into custody on charges including Home Invasion, Attempted Rape, and Sexual Battery. Hernandez is currently being held pending further investigation.
