SWAT Swoops in When the Suspect Barricades after Family Members Assaulted

LAKE ELSINORE – A “Family Disturbance” call morphed into a series of law enforcement actions
when the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded to a residence located on the 100
block of Heald Avenue.

First, assaulted family members needed to be moved to safety. Investigators found that Jose Gomez had
attacked the family members inside the residence.

Once the victims were moved to a safe location, Deputies turned their attention to securing the suspect.
At this point, the situation took a different turn – Gomez refused to comply.

Next, the suspect barricaded himself in the residence. Immediate measures included a prompt surround-
response from SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics ).

Quick action gave Lake Elsinore Station’s forces the edge – to assume control of the ever-expanding
crime scene.

The January 11, 2022, 10:30 AM multi-level incident culminated with a succinct announcement. “SWAT
members arrested Gomez,” said Seargeant Thomas, “and he was later booked at the Cois Byrd
Detention Center for attempted murder, criminal threats and resisting arrest.”
