Merced County Man Accused of Shooting at Other Man Over “Disagreement”

A Merced County man has been arrested in connection to an alleged shooting incident earlier this week, according to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred just before 2 PM in the area of R Street and West Childs Ave on Monday, March 20th. The victim reported to the officers that 53-year-old Jerry Johnson had fired a gun at him after a disagreement.

No injuries were reported, but the victim’s vehicle had a bullet hole in the door, and the discharged round was recovered by the officers, the Sheriff’s Office said.

An officer responded to the incident and located Johnson outside his residence near the 1100 block of West 4th Street. After a brief stand-off, Johnson was taken into custody. As a precaution, Sheehy Elementary School was placed on lockdown.

During the investigation, officers located a discharged bullet casing on the ground outside the home.

Detectives served a search warrant at Johnson’s residence and recovered a .45 caliber Glock semi-automatic firearm. Johnson was ultimately booked at the Merced County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at an occupied vehicle.

Merced Police are calling on anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact Officer Fister at 209-388-7847 or by email at fisterj@cityofmerced.org.
