Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Other Man, Attacking Him with Horseshoe

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing another man repeatedly and attacking him with a horseshoe.

Shortly after 9 AM on October 23, the Atwater Police Department dispatch received a call regarding an injured individual at Osborne Park in the 500 Block of East Bellevue Road, according to a press release by the department.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 36-year-old unhoused man from the Atwater area suffering from multiple stab wounds, and injuries police later discovered were inflicted with a metal horseshoe.

Police believe that the victim’s injuries were the result of an altercation between the victim and suspect, the latter identified as 42-year-old David Lucas. Shortly after being identified as the suspect, Lucas was located and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He was booked at the Merced County jail.

The victim was airlifted to a Modesto Hospital in critical condition.
