“On February 23, 2023 at 4:53 p.m., Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) traffic officers responded to the area of El Camino Real and Lawrence Expressway to investigate a hit-and-run collision.

A preliminary investigation by the traffic officers revealed the victim rode his red-colored electric bike on northbound Lawrence Expressway in the dedicated bicycle lane.  The victim continued straight with intentions to make a left turn onto El Camino Real.  The suspect vehicle drove westbound on El Camino Real.  The bicycle collided into the suspect’s front driver’s side area.  The suspect vehicle did not stop and failed to remain at the scene of the collision.  The suspect vehicle fled westbound on El Camino Real and was last seen turning left onto southbound Lawrence Expressway.

At the time of the collision, the victim had a complaint of pain.  Out of an abundance of caution, the victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.  The victim remains in the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect’s vehicle was described by a witness as a white-colored pick-up truck.  The pick-up truck may have rear racks and a glass transportation frame in the truck bed.  The vehicle may also have possible damage on the front-driver side.

SCPD is seeking the public’s assistance with help identifying the suspect vehicle.  Please do not attempt to contact or apprehend the owner of the suspected vehicle.

Anyone with information may call Traffic Investigator Scott Wilson at (408) 615-4764.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may leave a message on our Tip Line at (408) 615-4847.”
