Yolo County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Recent Murder-Suicide in Winters

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office has announced an investigation into a recent murder-suicide in Winters, according to a department Facebook post.

Deputies began investigating on the morning of Sunday, November 13, when they responded to a welfare check on the 22000 block of Highway 128. A concerned party had called the Sheriff’s Office and reported that his friend had just told him, over the phone, that he had killed his wife and was going to kill himself.

Deputies reportedly found a woman’s body inside an RV at the scene. She had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The suspect was soon identified as her husband, 56-year-old Alfonso Hernandez Jr. of Sacramento.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a BOLO alert for Hernandez, who was believed to be traveling in his vehicle somewhere along Highway 50. He was soon located in his vehicle on Icehouse Road near the town of Whitehall by El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies.

When deputies and CHP tried to make contact, Hernandez reportedly shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have yet to release the identity of Hernandez’s wife, as they are reportedly waiting on a confirmation from the coroner. Though the investigation is still active, authorities believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
