“On Saturday, 10/08/22, shortly after 4:30pm, the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call regarding a a male subject on the roof of a building, jumping up and down and acting erratically.

MCSO Deputies responded to the 40000 block of Highway 41 and located a door to the building that had been forced open. They discovered the male subject barricaded in a bathroom, and heard him yelling and breaking items inside.

Deputies immediately began using de-escalation techniques to attempt to coax the male out of the bathroom, who refused to exit or comply with instructions. After some continued negotiations, the subject came out of the bathroom to surrender. When Deputies attempted to place him under arrest, he became physically combative. A taser was deployed, which incapacitated the subject long enough for Deputies to take him into custody.

During their investigation, Deputies discovered the suspect broke the toilet to such an extent it caused flooding to the building. He broke the light fixture, ripped a hole in the wall, broke the mirror, and broke several other items which amounted to several thousand dollars in damage.

The male, identified as 37 year old Dell Bush of Louisiana, was transported to a local hospital for self-inflicted injuries sustained while he vandalized the bathroom. Upon medical clearance, he was booked in at the Madera County Jail for multiple charges including felony burglary, felony vandalism, felony resisting an executive officer, and misdemeanor battery on a peace officer.

Sheriff Tyson Pogue states, “I applaud the efforts of our deputies to quickly and safely deescalate this situation without any further damage or threat to the public. This successful resolution is a great example of the skilled professionals we have on our team.””
