Modoc County Corrections Officer Arrested for Alleged Sexual Misconduct

“Alturas, CA – A Corrections Officer at Modoc County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested for an alleged sexual relationship with an inmate.

Following receipt of reports from staff, the Sheriff requested an outside agency to conduct that investigation which has been completed.

On September 10, 2022, an arrest warrant was obtained for the arrest of former Correctional Officer Melanie Alicia Martin, age 34, for having sexual relations with inmates at the Modoc County Jail. Martin has been booked into the Modoc County jail with bail set at $20,000.

Penal Code 289.6 is the California statue that prohibits certain people from engaging in sexual activity with an inmate. Those people include correctional officers. An inmate cannot consent to sex if confined in a detention facility.

“The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office is taking this alleged allegation of sexual misconduct very seriously.” said Sheriff Tex Dowdy.”
