Convicted Felon Arrested for Allegedly Shooting at Vehicles Near School

ANTIOCH — No one was injured before police arrested a man believed responsible for shooting at vehicles driving near an elementary school. The suspect is a convicted felon on parole—not allowed to possess any kind of firearm.

Police began receiving numerous 911 calls August 18 at 12:46 p.m. Callers reported seeing a man with a gun near the intersection of Country Hills Drive and Deer Way.

This alarming incident occurred one block away from Jack London Elementary School. Another school, Black Diamond Middle School is located approximately a half mile away.

Before responding officers arrived on the scene, gunfire erupted near the elementary school. Some of the officers were stationed at the elementary school for the safety and security of staff and students.

Several eyewitnesses in the area assisted police in locating the suspect. Officers detained and arrested 29-year-old Felix Johnson. He was taken into police custody at 2:25 p.m.

Johnson was transported and booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. He was later transferred to the county lockup located in Richmond.

He presently remains in custody at the West County Detention Facility on a parole hold, related to battery and robbery.

Pending further investigation of the gunfire near the school, Johnson faces multiple new firearms-related charges. These include felony parole violation for possession of a firearm.

Johnson also faces additional charges for illegal firearm discharge with negligence. Plus, he faces charges for assault with a firearm on persons and shooting at inhabited vehicles.
