Banning PD: Man found guilty in January 2021 murder

“On 01/12/21, at approximately 0826 hours, Banning Police Officers responded to 1277 N. San Gorgonio Avenue, in the City of Banning, County of Riverside, reference a report of gunshots being fired and a subject down inside the residence. Banning Police Officers located a victim, identified as 28-year-old Daniel Figueroa, deceased in the kitchen of the residence. Banning Police Detectives took over the investigation and identified 43-year-old Jason Anthony Rhine (currently 44 years of age) as the suspect in the homicide.

Rhine was arrested on 01/20/21, for the charge of 187(a) PC – 1st Degree Murder, and later booked into Larry Smith Correctional Facility for the violation.

UPDATED CASE INFORMATION:
On 04/11/22, after a trial that began on 03/29/22 at the Banning Justice Center, a jury found Jason Anthony Rhine guilty of the following charges, including several enhancement allegations that were found true (reference Riverside County Court case # BAF2100096):

Charge 1: 187(a) PC – Murder 1st degree
Enhancement: 12022.53(d) PC – Use of a firearm causing great bodily injury

Charge 2: 459 PC – Burglary 1st degree
Enhancement: 12022.5(a) PC – Use of a firearm during commission of a felony

Charge 3: 29800(a)(1) PC – Convicted felon in possession of firearm
Enhancement: 667(a) PC – Prior Serious Felony Conviction / Strike Prior”
