“One of our correctional officers happened to be at the right place at the right time when he witnessed a transient setting fire to an open field across from the South Placer Jail, on April 12th. We’d like to add the suspect had just been released from the jail prior to this incident.

The officer was driving into the jail to begin his shift at 6:30 a.m., when he immediately called the fire department and alerted deputies in the jail.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Claudia Wing, was detained by a Roseville police officer until deputies responded to the scene. Wing had a lighter on her person in addition to a clear jail property bag with her name on it.

She was arrested for arson and then transported to the South Placer Jail. Great observation and quick action by the correctional officer!”
