Tuolumne County man accused of brutally assaulting live-in partner, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an alleged domestic violence incident in Tuolumne County.

36-year-old Jordan Gaestel is accused of brutally assaulting the female victim while intoxicated on the evening of Monday, February 21st, at the home they share in Groveland. The victim told officers that, following an argument, Gaestel had punched her, dragged her by her hair, hit her with a pan, and choked her until she passed out.

Despite Gaestel’s alleged threats to kill her if she tried to leave, the victim was able to escape and call police from a neighbor’s house.

Responding deputies located Gaestel hiding upstairs and took him into custody on suspicion of attempted murder, criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and the infliction of violence on a domestic partner, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
