The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a wanted gang member.

On the afternoon of February 2, detectives reportedly spotted 32-year-old Jesus Gomar of Salinas, a known gang member wanted in Santa Clara County on suspicion of violent crimes, entering an apartment on the 1500 block of Marin Avenue.

SWAT personnel responded to the scene with a search warrant while officers evacuated a neighboring apartment, as Gomar had allegedly been trying to force his way in through a shared attic space, the Sheriff’s Office said.

During the search of the apartment, officers reportedly found a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, along with suspected narcotics, in the attic space. Another individual — 33-year-old Edgar Barrios — was also located at the scene and ultimately arrested for alleged parole violation.

Gomar was also taken into custody, and booked on his outstanding warrant for alleged kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm, as well as new charges of burglary, being armed while committing a crime, and weapons and narcotics violations.
