Police: Man accused of attempted kidnapping, molestation of 8-year-old at Merced park

A man was recently arrested on suspicion of attempting to kidnap and molest an 8-year-old girl at a Merced park, according to police.
65-year-old Rolando Gonzalez, whom police have described as a local transient, was booked on suspicion of kidnapping and annoying or molesting a child after an alleged incident Rahilly Park.
Police say the victim, an 8-year-old girl, was playing at the park when Gonzalez confronted her and attempted to force her into his tent next to the bike path. The girl was fortunately able to escape before she could be harmed and returned home. Her parents then called police.
Gonzalez remains in custody.
