SWAT Team Arrests Oakland Man for Shooting at Occupied Homes

UNION CITY — A man was arrested by a SWAT team on suspicion of shooting at two houses and a vehicle in Union City. Although the homes were occupied no one was reported injured.

The shootings occurred September 25. During the ensuing investigation, Union City PD identified Andres T. Ramirez, a 24-year-old resident of Oakland, as the suspect.

Ramirez allegedly fired multiple rounds from a semi-automatic rifle in the Casa Verde housing complex. The gunfire erupted late at night when most residents in the area were asleep.

On November 4, search and arrest warrants were served by a UCPD investigations unit working in conjunction with a SWAT team. Ramirez was taken into custody at his Oakland residence at 7:05 a.m.

Incidentally, Ramirez was also wanted in connection with prior crimes. On August 22, he allegedly was involved in a hit and run accident and he allegedly committed battery.

He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $205,000 bond, pending a court hearing on November 16.

Ramirez is charged with shooting at an inhabited dwelling and possession of an assault weapon. In addition, he is charged with carrying an unregistered loaded firearm.

For the earlier incident in September, he faces misdemeanor charges for battery and hit and run driving.
