Santa Cruz police have arrested a man in connection to a recent alleged hate crime assault.

39-year-old Anthony Williams of Watsonville is accused of accosting two men in the early morning hours of November 2, allegedly by brandishing two knives and using homophobic slurs, in the area of Beach and Main Street.

The two men attempted to de-escalate the situation peacefully, but Williams allegedly stabbed one of them in the leg before running off. The victim’s wound was serious but not life-threatening, police said.

Officers quickly located and arrested Williams just blocks away from the crime scene. He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and a hate crime charge.
