A man and woman have both been arrested in connection to the alleged attempted murder of a Galt police officer.

Around 3 AM on Saturday, October 23, an officer on patrol in the north/east dead-end area of Crystal Way reportedly spotted a vehicle parked along nearby Boessow Road that he recognized from a previous DUI stop. The driver of the vehicle had been arrested and later released.

The officer then heard gunshots strike the ground near where he was standing, and radioed for backup. Additional units responded and chased down the suspect vehicle, arresting the two occupants — 24-year-old Alejandro Reyes-Rios and 24-year-old Virginia Marie Montanez.

Investigators found evidence corroborating the events both at the scene where the officer was allegedly shot at, and on Boessow Road where the vehicle had initially been stopped.

Both Reyes-Rios and Montanez were booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy, with an additional charge of accessory after the fact for Montanez.
