The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident in which a vehicle was allegedly stolen with a toddler still inside.

Early on the morning of Friday, October 15th, CHP notified the Sheriff’s Office that a vehicle had been reported stolen out of the 12100 block of Cinder Road in Redding, and that a 3-year-old toddler had been inside. The child’s mother had briefly gone into her home to change clothes, and reportedly came outside to find her vehicle being driven away.

Deputies responded to the scene and began investigating the incident as a kidnapping, canvassing the area and utilizing a CHP aircraft.

Less than an hour later, a report came in of an unattended child in a vehicle in the area of Leona and Pine Grove Avenues in Shasta Lake. Authorities responded to the area and confirmed that they’d located both the child and vehicle stolen from Cinder Road. The child was safe and in good health, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators canvassed the area but found no suspects. The investigation is on-going and being handled by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information potentially relevant to the case is encouraged to contact SHASCOM at (530) 245 – 6540.
