Two men arrested for 2019 murder of Jeffery Cheng

Two men have recently been arrested in relation to the 2019 murder of 31-year-old Jeffery Cheng.

Orange County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators became aware of a “suspicious vehicle” parked on Leafwood Street in Stanton on March 8, 2019, according to the release.  When they opened the trunk, they found a deceased man—later identified as Jeffery Cheng—inside.

The suspects, 32-year-old Jonathan Ho of Marina del Rey and 27-year-old Nicholas Nguyen of Oklahoma City, were arrested without incident on October 14, 2021.

Investigators issued warrants in Marina del Rey and Oklahoma City before making the arrests.  “Three firearms, approximately 1,000 fentanyl pills and 5,000 methamphetamine pills were also seized as a result of the warrants,” states the release. “The estimated street value of the fentanyl pills is approximately $30,000.”

Nguyen, who is waiting to be extradited to California, has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.  Ho was booked for possessing metal knuckles and drug related charges.

“The motive for the crime and the relationship between the victim and suspects remain part of the ongoing investigation,” according to the release.
