“A Santa Cruz man was arrested after carjacking a victim at the Starbucks on Auburn Ravine Road.
On August 11th at 10:22 a.m., our dispatchers received a call from a gas station clerk saying a man was yelling at him to call the police. The man then walked off. Deputies responded to the area and located the suspect near Affordable RV on Auburn Ravine Road.
They identified him as 35-year old Morgan McAllister of Santa Cruz. During the contact, McAllister took off running across the street and got into the passenger seat of an occupied truck at the Starbucks parking lot. McAllister told the victim to start driving, but the victim was fearful and got out of the vehicle.
McAllister moved to the driver’s seat and started revving the engine as deputies arrived and blocked the car in. Deputies gave McAllister several commands to exit the vehicle, which he ignored.
Our Hostage Negotiation Team responded and attempted to talk McAllister into surrendering with no luck. Deputies were forced to break the windows to safely take him into custody.
McAllister was arrested for carjacking, resisting a peace officer and violation of parole.”
