“On Wednesday, July 14th, 2021, at approximately 12:02 a.m., Santa Rosa Police responded to the parking lot of 1700 Fulton Rd. (Piner High School) to a report of a male and a female in an argument.  Moments later, the caller reported the involved male had a gun and pointed the gun at the caller.  The caller gave responding officers information that the suspect had driven away in a silver 4-door sedan; possibly a Nissan.  The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, 18-20 years old with a handgun.

A responding officer driving up to Piner High School saw a 4-door Nissan sedan matching the description given driving away from the scene.  The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle continued driving southbound on Fulton Road.  The driver led the officer on a pursuit ending at the shopping center at the corner of West Third Street and Stony Point Road.

Officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.  The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Alejandro Huerta, a Santa Rosa resident.  After detaining Huerta, the lone occupant of the vehicle, officers located a loaded 40 mm handgun with a large-capacity magazine on the seat next to him.  The firearm was not serialized and is commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.”

Through the officers’ investigation, they determined Huerta was involved in an argument with his girlfriend and her companion.  Huerta assaulted his girlfriend, prevented her from leaving his vehicle, and pointed a handgun at her companion, threatening to kill her.  He fled and was later arrested by officers.  The victim and her companion will not be identified due to the nature of the crimes committed involving domestic violence.
Huerta was booked into Sonoma County Jail for the following charges:

  • 25400(c)(6) PC – Carry a concealable firearm in a vehicle – felony.
  • 25850(a) PC – Unlawful Possession of a firearm in public or vehicle – felony.
  • 25850(c)(6) PC – Unlawful possession of a firearm not by registered owner – felony.
  • 32310(a) PC – Possession of a high capacity magazine – felony.
  • 626.9 – Possession of a firearm on school grounds – felony.
  • 422 PC – Criminal threats – felony.
  • 245(a)(2) PC – Assault with a deadly weapon:  firearm – felony.
  • 243(e)(1) PC – Domestic violence assault – misdemeanor
  • 236 PC – False imprisonment – felony.
  • 2800.1(a) VC – Evading a peace officer – misdemeanor.

Piner High School was not in session and the incident appears to be unrelated to the school.”
