A major law enforcement operation began at approximately 7:00 a.m. on June 24 th when the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Compliance Response Team attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 42-year-old Miguel Alcazar at his Santa Maria apartment residence.

According to SBSD Public Information Officer Raquel Zick, the inciting incident during the service of the warrant erupted as cops entered the apartment and Alcazar indicated he had zero interest in being taken into custody. The fact that deputies spotted “a semi-automatic rifle” in the room occupied by Alcazar immediately raised the situational temperature, whereupon the cops quickly established a secure perimeter around the area and began evacuating other nearby apartment dwellers.

As additional law enforcement resources arrived on the scene—including the SBSD Special Enforcement Team—Alcazar “gained access to an adjacent apartment through an attic crawl space.” But as soon as he dropped down from the attic, Alcazar was greeted with enough weapons pointed at him that he wisely accepted defeat and allowed himself to be taken into
custody.

As soon as Alcazar was in handcuffs, deputies searched his residence and discovered two semi- automatic rifles, a semi-automatic pistol, heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamine. He was then transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on multiple firearms and narcotics violations. He remains in custody and is being held without bail.
