“OfferUp” Armed-Robbery Duo Arrested with Toddler in Tow

MORENO VALLEY – A robbery-at-gunpoint call at July 1st at 9:02 AM immediately dispatched Moreno Valley Station Deputies to the scene of the crime on the 24000 block of Rimview Road. Deputies encountered an anonymous male victim who’d arranged a sale of items via the OfferUp application.

The victim had presented an item for sale, but was greeted with a firearm pointed at him. The suspect took the property and fled in a vehicle occupied by a female.

Deputies immediately canvassed the area for the suspects and vehicle, but came up dry. Swift action was taken when The Moreno Valley Station’s Robbery/Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) assumed the investigation.

As RBST worked leads, they noted an active attempt by the same suspects to arrange another transaction for additional peoperty via OfferUp. “RBST followed-up on those leads and located the suspects in 22000 block of Town Circle, Moreno Valley,” said Sergeant Robert Martinez. “The suspects were taken into custody without incident and a firearm was recovered at the scene.”

Most precious cargo – the suspects’ 2-year-old was in the vehicle at the scene of the crime. The toddler was well looked-after by a Deputy, as Child Protective Services travelled over to provide care for the child.

RBST subsequently authored and served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, located in the 1400 block of Cedar Street, San Bernardino. During service of the search warrant, deputies located evidence of the robbery and corresponding stolen property.

The suspects, ID’d as Anthony Martinez and Bridgette Aurora Aguirre, were taken to Robert Presley Detention Center. There, they were booked on multiple felony charges, along with child endangerment.

For everyone’s safety and protection, RBST would like to remind the public that the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station has a dedicated “Safe Exchange” location in the parking lot of the station and advises everyone to utilize that area for safe exchanges.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Moreno Valley Station RBST Deputy Jeff Andrews at 951-486-6700.
