Police Utilize Drone Technology to Recover Stolen Truck & Arrest Suspect
CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — On Wednesday, July 2, 2026, officers from the Cathedral City Police Department and the Palm Springs Police Department coordinated a joint operation utilizing communication networks and small unmanned aircraft systems, commonly referred to as drones, to track a recently stolen vehicle.
Law enforcement personnel used the drones to monitor the vehicle’s location and movements. This aerial observation allowed officers to track the suspect without initiating a vehicle pursuit on public roadways.
The suspect subsequently stopped the vehicle at the Tower Market located on Date Palm Drive. At that location, officers from both departments intervened and detained the suspect without incident. The vehicle, a truck, was recovered and returned to the owner.
Following the detention, the suspect was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and petty theft with two or more prior convictions.
