Palm Springs Police Investigate Assault and Suspect Fatality on West San Rafael Drive
PALM SPRINGS, CA – The Palm Springs Police Department has initiated an investigation following an assault with a deadly weapon and a subsequent fatality on Sunday, April 26, 2026. At approximately 2:35 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 290 block of West San Rafael Drive.
Upon arrival, law enforcement located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. The victim received medical aid at the scene before being transported to a regional hospital for further treatment. During the initial inquiry, the victim identified a known suspect involved in the incident.
Officers determined the suspect had fled into a nearby commercial unit. A containment perimeter was established around the location, and officers attempted to establish communication with the individual. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact the suspect, investigators obtained a search warrant to enter the premises. Upon entry, officers located the suspect, who had succumbed to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office is responsible for the eventual release of the suspect’s identity. West San Rafael Drive was closed to traffic to facilitate the investigation, with officials noting that an Everbridge alert would be issued to notify the public once the roadway was reopened.
