Felon Suspected of Crashing a Stolen Car after Fleeing from Safeway

PLEASANTON –- A 44-year-old felon was arrested after fleeing from a supermarket and crashing a stolen car. The man allegedly had cocaine in his possession when he was taken into custody, and not for the first time.

Pleasanton officers located the stolen car June 25 at 2:16 p.m. They saw it in the parking lot of the Safeway supermarket located at 6790 Bernal Avenue.

When officers attempted to contact the driver, he fled northbound through the parking lot. The car sped towards Bernal Avenue, over concrete parking blocks and through landscaping, before becoming disabled.

The driver exited from the vehicle and started running, but he was apprehended a short distance away. The suspect identified as Darrell Lee Robinson of Oakland was arrested at 2:24 p.m., near a Freeway 680 off-ramp.

Pleasanton PD was assisted by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, which dispatched a helicopter for aerial surveillance.

Robinson was booked into Santa Rita Jail for vehicle theft and possession of cocaine base for sale. In addition, he was booked for evading an officer with disregard for safety and giving false information to an officer.

On June 28, Robinson was subsequently charged with evading and officer and giving false information to an officer.

Robinson has 10 prior arrests on his rap sheet, including six arrests involving cocaine possession. He has convictions for cocaine sales in 2011 and 2006. For this he was twice sentenced to five years of probation.

In 1996, he was sentenced to state prison for felon/addict in possession of a firearm.
