Pair in stolen Ford Escape speed away for a while

Early on the morning of May 24th the CHP pursued a stolen 2008 Ford Escape. The chase continued to near 19th and Medford Avenues.

It was here that authorities lost sight of the stolen vehicle and asked for help from the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy then spotted the Escape as it drove north on 12th Avenue. Another pursuit began.

At times the suspect drove at 130 m.p.h. Soon the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle into a dry canal.

Manuel Huerta and Jasper Cardoza, got out of the vehicle and ran in the direction of a residence nearby.

Jasper was soon detained but Manuel slipped out of sight. After a perimeter was set up, a more thorough search began through outbuildings, vehicles and shops.

With the assistance of a K-9 officer, Manuel was discovered hiding in a shed. However, he did not give up without a struggle, trying to choke the K-9.

Deputies achieved compliance with the assistance of a bean bag round.

The charges for the pair include felony pursuit, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest, with bail set at $50,000.
