Del Norte County: Suspect arrested in connection to recent murder in Crescent City

The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office has announced the recent arrest of a man suspected of murder.

Just after 1 AM on April 22, according to the Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Joseph Deford was found unresponsive near the 200 block of Harding Avenue in Crescent City. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, and examiners discovered a suspected small-caliber gunshot wound to his back.

On April 27, the Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested 33-year-old Neil Hiller as the primary suspect in Deford’s murder.

Additional details are being kept under wraps as the investigation continues, the Sheriff’s Office says.
