“After a very lengthy and complex investigation by the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department, Christopher MacFarland age 39 of Smith River was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison by the Del Norte County Superior Court.

This investigation involved multiple victims under the age of 12 and included multiple sexual offenses involving children, including possession of child pornography with enhancements for prior convictions.

The suspect in this case has an extensive history of sexually abusing children and being in possession of child pornography.

Throughout this investigation there were two search warrants and one arrest warrant written and served. This case was prosecuted by the Del Norte County District Attorney’s Office.

A message from Sheriff Scott: An outstanding investigation was conducted by Del Norte County Sheriff’s Investigator Asbury. This case involved many complex components, including warrants, countless hours of research and interviews of both victims and suspects.
