“On February 25, 2021 at about 1:30 AM, two Bakersfield Police Department officers were conducting a felony vandalism investigation in the 3800 block of White Lane.

Officers attempted to contact the suspect of the vandalism, identified as Rogelio Salazar (35), who was located in the driver seat of a nearby vehicle with the door open.

While in contact, Salazar attempted to drive away with his vehicle door open, causing one officer to fall beneath the vehicle. The vehicle traveled over one officer’s legs and the foot of the other officer. Salazar was eventually taken into custody.

A search of Salazar’s vehicle incident to his arrest revealed an unregistered loaded rifle, methamphetamine and marijuana.

Salazar, who is a prior convicted felon, was placed under arrest for felony vandalism, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sales, possession of a controlled substance while armed, gang participation, aggravated assault and other associated charges.

Both officers were treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries and are expected to make full recoveries.”
