Deputies Arrest Attempted Murder Suspect

BAKERSFIED — Kern County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man in connection with the attempted homicide and robbery of 31-year old Bakersfield man.

At around 6:40 p.m. on May 29, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Gang Suppression Section completed a six-week investigation into the attempted murder of Anthony Rocha.

Spokesperson Ray Pruitt said deputies arrested 19-year-old, Jose Carlos Alvarez, who was traveling as the passenger in a vehicle in the 2300 block of Kentucky Street in east Bakersfield.

After Alvarez’s arrest, the sheriff’s office then executed a search warrant in the 2500 block of Security Avenue in an effort to find further evidence from the crime.

During their search, deputies discovered and seized a firearm and ammo that they believe was used in the attempted murder of Rocha.

Alvarez was booked into the Kern County Jail for attempted homicide, robbery and participation in a criminal street gang.

His bail is currently set at $1,000,000.00.
