“GPD has been investigating a series of break-ins regarding community mailboxes. There has been a total of 28 reported mail thefts since the beginning of this year. Officers had previously identified a suspect vehicle from surveillance footage provided to us.
Early this morning (02/17), at approximately 12:52 a.m., Galt Police Officers observed the suspect vehicle involved in the suspected thefts while on patrol. A traffic stop was conducted near E. Stockton Blvd/Winn Dr. and a significant amount of stolen mail was located in the suspect’s vehicle.
During the officers’ investigation, it was determined the suspects were in Galt for the purpose of mail theft when they were stopped by officers. It was also determined both suspects were connected to numerous mail thefts throughout town, as well as other nearby cities.
The suspects were identified as Misael Cazares, 28, from Stockton and Ricki Jene Megazzi, 32, from Olivehurst.
Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for conspiracy, identity theft to obtain credit, and possession of burglary tools.
Our Investigations Unit is actively conducting further investigation at this time.”
