From Child Abuse to Homicide of an Infant – Fugitive Task Force Arrests Father

SANTEE – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department received a call regarding a seven-month-old infant
in medical distress. Deputies were immediately dispatched for an assist to the 8600 block of Paseo Del
Rey.

A quick ambulance response whisked the suffering baby to a local hospital on 04/22/2020 at 7:25 PM for treatment.

“The circumstances warranted further investigation, resulting in the Child Abuse Unit responding,” said
Lieutenant Thomas Seiver, of the Homicide Unit. “As the investigation progressed, the Homicide Unit
responded and assumed responsibility of the investigation.”

Three days later, the baby lost its fight to survive, and was pronounced deceased on 04/25/2020.
As a result, an arrest warrant was issued to Homicide detectives for service to Daniel Charles Marshall
(35), of Santee. The infant’s father was arrested on 12/03/2020 by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive
Task Force in San Diego.

Marshall was transported to San Diego Central Jail, and booked for one count of 187(a) PC – Murder
and 273ab PC – Child Abuse Resulting in Death.
