18-Year-Old Arrested After Driving U-Haul Pickup in Scripps Ranch Sideshow
SAN DIEGO, CA — On Saturday, officers with the San Diego Police Department observed an 18-year-old individual driving a rented U-Haul pickup truck while participating in a sideshow near the intersection of Scripps Ranch Court and Scripps Ranch Boulevard.
The same driver had previously drawn the attention of law enforcement after posting videos online showing reckless driving maneuvers across San Diego in a different vehicle, including exhibition of speed, sideshow participation, and high-speed weaving between active traffic lanes.
The sideshow activity at the Scripps Ranch location resulted in intentional damage to the roadway surface, generating an estimated $5,153 in repair costs for the municipality. Officers arrested the 18-year-old driver and booked him into the San Diego County Central Jail on charges including felony vandalism, exhibition of speed, and reckless driving.
Law enforcement investigators have connected the driver to multiple prior incidents of reckless driving and sideshow events. Those related investigations remain open, and additional criminal charges may be filed.
