Man Faces 23 Felony Charges Involving Drugs, Weapons and Murder

OAKLAND — A man residing in county jail faces 23 felony charges involving drugs, weapons, and murder. William F. Hommert, 25 of Oakland has been arrested three times this year, including most recently in November.

Hommert allegedly murdered 24-year-old Lance Barr on October 2. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, after being shot multiple times inside a car.

This occurred on the 2100 block of MacArthur Boulevard. Hommert was taken into custody by Oakland officers on November 19.

He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release on bond, pending a plea hearing on December 4.

Another man, Trevor L. Simpson, 20 of Alameda, was also arrested in connection with the same fatal shooting. Simpson has been charged with firearm possession and being an accessory after the fact.

Hommert faces 10 felony charges involving the October 2 fatal shooting. His charges include murder, shooting at an inhabited vehicle, and use of a firearm.

He is also charged with committing another crime, while on release from jail on bond or his own recognizance. Regarding one unrelated prior arrest, he faces 13 additional charges involving drug dealing and weapons possession in September.

In July, Hommert was also arrested on numerous charges involving drug dealing and weapons possession. In addition to this, he has other prior arrests dating back to 2014. His criminal record includes sentences in county jail and probation.
