El Centro Sector border patrol agents have arrested a gang member on suspicion of attempting to enter the United States illegally.

Around 5:30 AM on October 16, agents at the Calexico station apprehended a man they’d seen illegally entering the country about a mile east of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.

A background screening later revealed that the individual, identified only as a 47-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras, is a documented Mexicles gang member who’d already once been convicted of illegally entering the U.S.

He also had an aggravated felony conviction for armed robbery out of Houston, TX, in 2010. He’d most recently been removed from the country in July of this year.

Authorities say he remains in federal custody pending prosecution.
