“Our Crimes Against Persons Unit arrested 20-year old Alijah Edmond Dabney of Sacramento, on June 18th. Dabney had a felony probation no-bail warrant for burglary, and upon his arrest, detectives found 1,000 30mg Oxycontin pills in Dabney’s possession.

Detectives sent the pills to a lab to be tested. They recently received the results, which concluded the pills were laced with Fentanyl. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine, but is 50 to 100 times more potent. Synthetic opioids such as fentanyl are considered to be the most common drugs involved in drug overdose deaths in the United States. There have been 14 fentanyl overdose deaths in Placer County since January 2020.

According to the Department of Justice, in 2017, 59% of opioid-related deaths in U.S. involved fentanyl, compared to 14.3% in 2010. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 45% of drug overdose deaths in California involved synthetic opioids.”
