Intoxicated man tries to fight deputy and his K-9 partner

On the afternoon of July 15, an intoxicated man in the 39000 block of South Highway 1 garnered the attention of various citizen who then called the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told the arriving deputy that the intoxicated man was 45-year-old Nathan Joseph Marrufo.

The suspect had been “striking various windows”  of local businesses, and stole less than $10 worth of merchandise from the Surf Supermarket.

The deputy who had arrived at the scene then located Marrufo in the parking lot of the Gualala Supermarket. When the deputy approached him, Marrufo walked away and did not comply with multiple commands to stop.

Next the deputy grabbed the suspect’s arm, at which time he “assumed a fighting stance.”

K-9 Takoda was invited to assist after Marrufo hit the deputy in the face with his fist.  With Takoda’s help, the suspect was detained and handcuffed.

However, Marrufo continued “kicking at the deputy.”

After a stopover at the Ukiah Valley Medical Center, the suspect was cleared to proceed to the Mendocine County Jail and be booked for resisting, disorderly conduct, intoxicated in public and shoplifting. His bail was set at $15,000.
