LANCASTER – The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced that Damaris Wade aka Papa Cill (dob 3/15/98) of Lancaster has been charged with Attempted Murder of 80-Year-Old Roberto Flores Lopez.

The elderly man was brutally robbed and attacked in the restroom at Superior Groceries on Ave. J and Challenger Way.

Prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney Yujin Yi, said “On July 8, Wade allegedly beat up the elderly man at a supermarket restroom and stole the victim’s wallet.”

Girlfriend, Tamika White (dob 5/23/87) accompanied Wade when the assault took place. They both fled the scene, and were the subjects of an extensive search.

Days later, as Flores-Lopez languished alone in hospital due to Covid-19 safety protocals – Lancaster Sheriff’s Station Detective Esswein announced, “We are happy to share that the parties pictured in the bulletin have been arrested.”

To Detectives and Patrol Deputies “who worked around the clock, following every tip and lead we received – your diligence is an asset to our city.”

Grandson Christopher Ramirez announced on GoFundMe.com on behalf of the victim’s wife, children, and grandchildren: “Injuries include five broken ribs, broken eye-socket, multiple facial fractures, mental trauma, etc. Because of his age and pre existing heart condition, his recovery will take months and possibly years. This resulted in a tremendous amount of medical bills being left for the family to cover.”

Detective Esswein added, “We would also like to share that family members of Mr. Wade met with the Flores-Lopez family last night. Both families call for unity within our community.”

Amidst times of protest, law enforcement added, “We would like to thank YOU Antelope Valley. Crimes against our most vulnerable residents can stir up a lot of emotions. Your actions in the last few days are reflective of the fantastic community we have. Thank you for the tips, information and for showing respect to each other. We truly could not do this without you.”

Case MA079376 includes allegations that Wade was convicted of robbery in 2016. He faces one felony count each of attempted murder; elder abuse, infliction of injury; and second-degree robbery with allegations of inflicting great bodily injury upon a victim age 70 or older.

Held on Bail scheduled for for than $1.1 million – and if convicted as charged – Wade faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years-to-life in state prison.

Tamika White – convicted in 2014 of assault with a deadly weapon – faces one felony count of accessory after the crime, knowledge of robbery. Held on $100K bail, White also faces six years in prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Lancaster Station.
