A $50,000 John Deere tractor was in the sights of a would-be thief on June 21 around 8:20 p.m.

Deputies arrived on scene near 15th and Excelsior Avenues.

The victim saw Raul Gonzales driving in a Dodge Charger down his dirt road, followed him a bit, saw it parked and turned on a spotlight.

The spotlight revealed Gonzales sitting in the cab of the victim’s tractor. The suspect jumped out of the tractor and ran off “into a nearby area dense with brush and trees.”

The difficult search was aided by K9 Bluz. Deputies let Gonzales know that they had their K9 partner ready to enter into the brush to find and apprehend him.

The suspect did not answer, and Bluz went in, found Gonzales and bit him before returning to his handler.

The press release states that “eventually, Raul made his way out from his hiding
spot and was arrested without further incident.”

After medical treatment, Gonzales was booked for attempting to steal a tractor, trespassing and resisting arrest. His bail is set at $30,000.
