“On 05-10-2020, at about 6:10am, the Chico Police Dispatch center received a call of a suspicious subject at a closed business in the 700 block of Cherry Street.

The caller had observed a white male wearing a dark sweatshirt enter the fenced yard of Airgas, 709 Cherry St, and remove property. It was unclear what was actually taken, but the reporting party was able to follow the subject as he fled in a dark BMW from the business.

Thanks to the reporting party staying on the phone with the dispatcher, providing updates on the suspect and vehicle description, officers were able to locate the vehicle at 128 W. 19th Street in Chico.

A subject, identified as Ian Mickey age 34 of Chico, was contacted exiting the above residence. Mickey was identified as the subject who had entered the fenced yard of Airgas.

During a search of Mickey’s vehicle, a metal cylinder identified as belonging to the business was located. Mickey was placed under arrest for Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Burglary Tools and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.

Mickey was ultimately transported to the Butte County Jail for the listed charges.

The Chico Police Department was able to take enforcement action because of the citizen who reported what they witnessed. We would like to thank that citizen and remind everyone to contact the Chico Police Department when you see something suspicious.”
