OROVILLE — Butte County Sheriff’s Detectives have identified the primary suspects in the May 6, 2017, shooting of 34-year-old local Justin Jagears.

71-year-old David Tuttle and 39-year-old Edward Gaston — both of Oroville — are the two in question.

Witness interviews helped detectives piece together the sequence of events from that day, which began when Jagears, Tuttle, and Gaston left the home they shared together. Later that day, Tuttle and Gaston came home without Jagears.

The two had apparently taken Jagears to an unnamed location on Forbestown Road, where a verbal argument took place and led to Jagears being shot. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died as a result of his injuries.

Tuttle and Gaston have since been arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail on “open counts of homicide.”
