MCTF Pursuit of Stolen Car Nabs Armed Reckless-Driving Woman Wanted on Warrants

POMONA – Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) Officers made quick pursuit of a stolen car spotted near midnight on 03/26/2020. When it refused to make a traffic stop at Garey Ave./Fernleaf Ave., Officers sprang into action.
The runaway vehicle sped recklessly through city main streets and side streets. The driver was later ID’d as Sonya Sifuentes (35) of Pomona, who careened wildly with an anonymous male adult in the car.
“Ultimately, Sifuentes crashed into a parked car at the intersection of Grand Ave./Gibbs St.,” said Major Crimes Task Force Sergeant M. Medellin. “Suspect Sifuentes tried to run away from the car after she crashed, but she was quickly caught by police.”
“The passenger in the car suffered leg and head pain as a result of Sifuentes’ actions,” said Sgt. Medellin, “and was treated at the scene by paramedics.” A loaded handgun was found, harkening to a previous similar incident were Sifuentes was investigated by MCTF.
A bevy of charges were handed to Sifuentes:
2800.3 CVC – Felony Evading (Causing Injury)
10851 CVC – Grand Theft Vehicle
29800 (a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Firearm
30305 (a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Ammunition
25850(c)(6) PC – Carrying Loaded Firearm
1203.2 PC – Probation Violation (No Bail Warrant)
The arrested felon had two outstanding NO BAIL warrants. She was booked into Pomona City Jail.
MCTF is Pomona PD’s specialized unit within the PD, responsible for suppressing gang violence, investigating drug offenses and pursuing wanted persons. The team is comprised of two supervisors, five officers and two additional officers from the California Highway Patrol – Baldwin Park Office.
