Father and Son Charged with Insurance Fraud

Up until October 2018, Rashpal Virk, 57-year old of Fresno, was riding insured in his Ford F-150. Come October 2018, his insurance policy with GEICO lapsed when no payment was received.

On November 26, 2018, Yadwinder, one of Rashpal’s sons struck the back end of a vehicle leaving the front end of the F-150 damaged. Within hours, Rashpal bought insurance coverage through Progressive.

Rashpal filed a claim with Progressive, reporting the accident occurred after the policy was in place. His 26-year old son, Arwinder Virk, backed him on the details surrounding the collision. Rashpal would have received $28,000 in an underserved payout but the false claim was discovered.

Father and son were each charged with felony counts of auto insurance fraud. They will be arraigned on April 21, 2020. The case is being prosecuted by the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office Deputy District Attorney Victor Lai at the Fresno County Superior Courthouse.
