On the evening of February 27th, a Fresno County Public Library security guard was attacked by 64-year old Warren Vesper.

Vesper took the security guard’s baton and struck him several times, injuring the guard’s hand. Other security guards on site came to the man’s aid and pepper sprayed Vesper who then sought refuge in the men’s restroom.

When Fresno County Sheriff deputies arrived, Vesper was still in the restroom, refusing to come out. One of the responding deputies works with the Crisis Negotiation Team and they were able to persuade Vesper to come out of the restroom without the baton in hand.

Vesper was arrested without further resistance and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge for possessing a meth pipe. He was booked into Fresno County Jail with bail set at $21,000.
