FREMONT — A homeless man was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman during a fitness class at a gym. The suspect was taken into custody with help from another gym patron who came to the woman’s aid.

The woman was doing push-ups, when without warning a man entered a group exercise class. He approached the victim, shoved her down on the floor and pulled off her clothing.

The suspect identified as 33-year-old Jonathan Anderson, is a transient who lives in Fremont. Anderson who stands 6 foot 1 inches tall, weighing 255 pounds, allegedly attempted to sexually assault the woman.

As she screamed for help, another gym member immediately pushed the suspect away from her. From there, the suspect was escorted to the front of the gym and detained by employees, until police arrived.

Fremont police Lt. Michael Tegner said in a prepared statement. “Their quick action stopped this horrendous assault and aided in the suspect’s quick arrest.”
